An important part in the film/video making process, post-production has an astounding effect on the final look of a project. Editors work closely with directors, producers and art directors to create a final product that exceeds expectations. Think of a film or video as a puzzle. After the pre-production and production aspects to a shoot, you end up with a handful of puzzle pieces scattered on a table. Through the post-production process, you begin to add the pieces together to create a final picture.

One piece you may add in the post-production phase is audio. Through various sound effects, music scores and voice-overt narration, this piece adds a dimension to the existing puzzle that adds to the greater quality and production value of the project. Special effects would be another piece that can be included. The effects can range from your basic color correction and green screen key to adding explosions, fire, rain, and even bugs crawling on a character’s skin…and that’s only touching the surface of what special effects can bring to your production. The possibilities are always growing due to the technological advancements the industry has taken. As you keep adding these pieces to the puzzle you begin to create a clear view of what the final product will become. Other pieces in the post-production process are animation or motion graphics. Adding titles, logos and having them interact with the video only enhances and strengthens that video in both visual appeal and how effective it will be in capturing your target audience. Animation itself can be a very large step in the post-production process, especially when working with CG (Computer Graphics) movies and videos. Creating the characters, all the details for their bodies including hair, the camera movements etc are all done in the post-production process. The process is rewarding …as you add more of these pieces to this puzzle, the picture begins to become ever increasingly clear.
